The Three Benefitting Charities
for the Standard Chartered Brunei Half Marathon 2013 are Standard Chartered Bank's Seeing is Believing Programme, Learning Ladders and SMARTER Brunei.
SMARTER Brunei was established on 9 September 2001. It is a family support group and a society run by parents and family members for parents and family members exclusively for autism from childhood through to old age in a seamless journey to independence.
Seeing is Believing is Standard Chartered Bank's global initiative to tackle avoidable blindness and visual impairment. It is a collaboration with International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and leading eye care organisations. In Brunei, Standard Chartered Bank works closely with the Special Education Unit of the Ministry of Education to provide equal learning opportunities for visually impaired students in schools. The Bank also supports the Brunei Darussalam National Association of the Blind by providing them with an office premise, assisting them with various activities and funding special equipment. At the same time, the Bank works closely with the RIPAS Eye Clinic on various initiatives.
Learning Ladders is a registered non-profit organization, founded in 2007 by parents who are committed to advocacy, public education, information and support for children with Autism and their families. The goal was to improve the social and educational outcomes of these children through effective evidence based intervention. The mission is to develop early intervention services and tackle the paucity of trained local professionals.
